Turai David Borenshtein served in the Israel Defense Forces. David served with the Infantry. David served in the War of Independence. David was 35 years old.

What Happened

בן ברטה ויוסף, נולד ביום א' בכסלו תרע"ג (11.11.1912), בעיר נירנברג, גרמניה. קיבל חינוך דתי וסיים בית-ספר תיכון. עלה ארצה בחודש יוני 1933 ואחרי שתי שנות הכשרה במושב כפר-יעבץ של "הפועל המזרחי" עלה עם חבריו להתנחל בקבוצת בארות- יצחק שבדרום. דויד היה מסור לתורה, לעבודה ולהגנה, נטה שכם בשקידה לכל עבודה כפועל בעבודות העונתיות שבמשק, בבניין, ובשנים האחרונות התמסר לעבודת הרפת. בהתקרב האויב הנאצי לארץ-ישראל התגייס בחודש יולי 1940 לצבא הבריטי, נפל בשבי ביוון ורק אחרי מיגור גרמניה חזר הביתה. בחורף תש"ח התמסר להגנת המשק והסביבה מפני הפולש המצרי. כשנצטווה להוציא את אנשיו מעמדה אבודה בשרשרת ההגנה החיצונית של בארות-יצחק, קיים את הצו, חילץ את אנשיו וחזר יחידי אל העמדה להחזיק בה. הוא החזיק מעמד עד שנפל ביום ח' בתמוז תש"ח (15.7.1948). נקבר בבארות-יצחק. הניח אישה וילד. ביום כ' בחשוון תשי"א (31.10.1950) הועבר למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר- הרצל בירושלים.
