Yaakov "Avshalom" Avihud Levi
Rav Seren Yaakov Avihud Levi served in the Israel Defense Forces. Yaakov served with the Intelligence Corps. Yaakov was 34 years old.
בן נסים-רפאל וטובה. נולד ביום כ"ז בשבט תרע"ז (19.2.1917) בירושלים. אביו - מייסדו ומנהלו של בית-הספר העירוני לבנים הראשון בירושלים, נצר למשפחות רבנים ותלמידי-חכמים ומצאצאי שומרי חומות עיר-הקודש; אמו גננת לפי מקצועה, מהראשונות בארץ. סיים את לימודיו בבית-המדרש למורים בבית-הכרם ולמד שנה באוניברסיטה העברית. חובב ספרות ואמנות, ובייחוד מוסיקה. שימש בהוראה והיה מדריך-נוער. היה חבר ה"הגנה", שירת במלחמת-הקוממיות בדרגת רב-סרן ולאחריה עשה שלוש שנים בשליחות משרד-הבטחון. ברוך-כשרונות, נאמן לתפקידו, נועז ויחד עם זה זהיר בכל פעולותיו. נפל למשכב ונפטר במחלתו ביום י"ג בטבת תשי"ב (11.1.1952). הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי שעל הר-הרצל בירושלים. הניח אשה וילד. ב"שלושים" נוסדה ספריה לזכרו - "ספריית אבשלום" ("אבשלום" היה כינויו במחתרת).
