Samal Shimon Goralski served in the Israel Defense Forces. Shimon served with the Armored Corps. Shimon served in the War of Independence. Shimon was 23 years old.

What Happened

בנם-יחידם של חנה ושמואל, נולד ביום י' בתמוז תרפ"ה (2.7.1925) בעיר סלונים, פולין. משפחתו עלתה ארצה בשנת 1937 והתיישבה בראשון לציון. במושבה למד בבית-הספר העממי והמשיך את לימודיו בתל-אביב, בבית-הספר "תל-נורדוי". הוא התחנך בתנועת "השומר הצעיר" והדריך בה. היה בעל נטיות ספרותיות (תירגם שירים מפולנית לעברית) וצלם חובב. בחודש יוני 1942 התגייס לצבא הבריטי ושירת בחיל-הים. הוא עורר עליו את רוגז מפקדיו ונכלא במצרים. בימי שבתו בכלא כתב יומן על חיי הסבל והעינויים שם. בשנת 1944 השתחרר, עבר לפורט-סעיד וחזר לארץ. כאן עבד כמסגר עד חודש ספטמבר 1947 ואחר-כך התחיל לעבוד במסגריה של ה"הגנה", ובה הכין ותיקן כלי-נשק. בפרוץ מלחמת-העצמאות עבר לשרת בחטיבת "גבעתי" בתפקיד מ"כ. הוא סיים קורס צלפים ונתמנה סגן מפקד מחלקה. השתתף בכל הקרבות של פלוגתו. במשלט עיבדיס נפצע מכדור בשוקו, אך התגבר על הכאב והוסיף להילחם. בפעם השנייה נפגע בכפר ג'וליס מפגז ובדרך לבית-החולים מת מפצעיו ביום י"ד בתשרי תש"ט (17.10.1948). הובא למנוחת- עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בכפר ורבורג.
