Rav Turai Zvi Erlich served in the Israel Defense Forces. Zvi served with the Givati Brigade. Zvi served in the War of Independence. Zvi was 21 years old.

What Happened

בן טובה ודויד, נולד במוצאי חג-הפסח תרפ"ז (24.4.1927) בפולין. בן שש היה כשהמשפחה עלתה לארץ. הוריו השתקעו ברחובות ושם סיים את בית-הספר העממי. הוא למד מכונאות והתחיל לעבוד במקצועו. בינתיים התיישבו הוריו בשכונת אפרים שליד רחובות והקימו משק משלהם. צבי ניצל כל שעה פנויה לטפל בו. היה זה הוא שנטע את הגן ושתל את העצים. צבי הצטרף ל"הגנה" בגיל צעיר מאוד, מאז 1940, והתנסה בשימוש בכלי נשק רבים ובצורות לחימה. בפרוץ מלחמת-העצמאות היה מן המתגייסים הראשונים והוצב בחיל השריון ובחטיבת "גבעתי". הוא נשלח לכפר אוריה, השתתף בפעולות סוכריר, אבו-זוברין, תל-א-ריש, בשית, לטרון וכן במבצע "יואב", לפריצת הדרך לנגב. פעל כחבלן בנגבה. ראה את הניצחון המתקרב וחלם להתיישב על אדמת הנגב שתיכבש כולה בידי ישראל. צבי נפל ביום ט"ז בתשרי תש"ט (19.10.1948) בקרב חוליקאת. בהסתערות על משלט, פרץ לתוך עמדת האויב, חיסל את העמדה ונפל חלל. צבי הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בכפר ורבורג.
