Turai Eliahu Ben-Israel served in the Israel Defense Forces. Eliahu served with the Armored Corps. Eliahu served in the War of Independence.

What Happened

בן גילס ויחיה, נולד בשנת 1932 בטיפליס, חבל קווקז אשר ברוסיה. בשנת 1934 הגיע ארצה עם משפחתו והוא בן שנתיים. אליהו למד בבית-הספר העממי "ביאליק" בתל-אביב, עבד בבית- חרושת למוצרי עור והיה חבר ב"נוער העובד". הוא השתייך לתנועת-הנוער "השחר", התאמן שנה בגדנ"ע ועבר מה"הגנה" לצה"ל בהיותו בן 16. הוריו רצו לעכבו ולעשות למען שחרורו, אך הוא בשלו: "אם למות, למות למען המולדת". איליוש, כפי שנקרא בכינוי-חיבה, השתתף בקרבות בסביבת תל- אביב (חולון, אבו-כביר, בית-דג'ן, תל-א-ריש) נפל ביום ד' בסיוון תש"ח (11.6.1948) בהדיפת התקפת האויב על צריפין. הוא נפצע בשוק, סירב לקבל טיפול על-ידי החובש, כי אץ להיות עם המשלימים את הכיבוש. אליהו הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בנחלת יצחק.
