Turai Haim Markovitch served in the Israel Defense Forces. Haim served with the Armored Corps. Haim served in the War of Independence. Haim was 19 years old.
בן שרה ודויד-נחמיה, נולד ביום י"ד באלול תרפ"ט (19.9.1928) בעיר יאסי, רומניה וקיבל חינוך מקצועי בבית-ספר של "אורט". בשנת 1943 סיים את חוק לימודיו והתחיל לעזור למשפחתו. ב-12.9.1947 עלה לארץ במגמה להעלות אחריו את המשפחה כולה. זמן קצר התגורר בתל-אביב, אלא שחיי העיר לא משכו את לבו ונפשו ערגה לטבע, לכפר. משיצא להתיישב במחניים שבגליל לא ארכו הימים ומלחמת- העצמאות פרצה במלוא עוזה. חיים היה בין מגיני מחניים ומילא את התפקידים שהוטלו עליו. עם הרחבת מסגרת הגיוס הצטרף לפלמ"ח ב-9.5.1948, ולאחר-מכן לחטיבה 7, שזה עתה הוקמה. השתתף במבצע "בן-נון ב'", ההתקפה השנייה על מתחם הלגיון בלטרון, במגמה לפרוץ את הדרך לירושלים. היה בכוח שפרץ לחצר המשטרה, אך נתקל באש אויב עזה ונאלץ לסגת. בקרב זה נפל, ביום כ"א באייר תש"ח (30.5.1948). ביום כ"ה בחשוון תש"י (17.11.1949) הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בהר- הרצל בירושלים.
