Turai Peretz Leker served in the Israel Defense Forces. Peretz served with the Engineering corps. Peretz served in the War of Independence. Peretz was 26 years old.

What Happened

בנם-יחידם של רבקה ויעקב, נולד ביום י"ב בתשרי תרפ"ג (4.10.1922) בבוקרשט, בירת רומניה. לאחר שסיים את הגימנסיה היהודית בבוקרשט שלחוהו הוריו בשנת 1938 ללמוד בבית-הספר החקלאי מקווה ישראל, על אף מאורעות-הדמים שהתחוללו אז בארץ. מיום עלותו היה פעיל בתנועת-נוער. למרות האיסור של הוריו ומנהלו היה יוצא בחשאי לשמירת-לילה. ביולי 1941 סיים את לימודיו בבית-הספר החקלאי, ומשנת 1944 עזר להוריו, שעלו בינתיים לארץ וישבו בטבריה. באותה שנה הצטרף לשורות ה"הגנה". בשנת 1947, בפרוץ מלחמת-העצמאות, השתתף בארגון המבצעים הצבאיים בטבריה. במרס 1948 התנדב לצבא והשתתף בפעולות, תחילה ביבנאל ואחר-כך בכפר ילדים, במזרע, ולבסוף בחזית א' - תחבורה. כן השתתף בקרבות על צמח. ב-2.11.1948 התנדב לסילוק מוקשים בכביש מגדל-מע'ר. בשעת סילוקם נפצע פצעים אנושים ומת, ביום ב' בחשוון תש"ט (4.11.1948). נקבר בטבריה. ביום ט"ו בסיוון תש"י (31.5.1950) הועבר למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בנחלת יצחק.
