בן בכור של אילנה ואמנון. אמוץ נולד ביום כ"ד בתשרי תשכ"ט (16.10.1968) בקיבוץ יטבתה שבדרום הארץ. אח בכור של אליאורה, אבישי ואביתר. משבגר אמוץ נשא לאישה את שגית. בני הזוג הקימו את ביתם בהוד השרון, שם גידלו את ילדיהם ליהיא, אורי ושירה. בחודש יוני 2014 התגבר ירי רקטות מרצועת עזה לישראל, ובעקבות כך יצאה ישראל למבצע "צוק איתן" נגד החמאס באזור עזה. המבצע החל ב-8.7.2014 בהפצצות מהאוויר, וכעבור תשעה ימים החלה כניסה קרקעית של יחידות צבא לרצועת עזה לטפל במוקדי הירי ובמנהרות הטרור, משימות שבוצעו עד תום המבצע בסוף חודש אוגוסט. אמוץ נפל בקרב במבצע "צוק איתן" ביום כ"א בתמוז תשע"ד (19.7.2014), שישה ימים אחרי שגויס למילואים בחטיבת שריון 188 שנשלחה להשתתף בלחימה. איתו נפל סמל אדר ברסנו. אמוץ היה בן ארבעים ושש בנפלו. הוא הובא למנוחת עולמים בחלקה הצבאית בבית העלמין בנווה הדר, הוד השרון. הותיר אישה, שתי בנות ובן, הורים, אחות ושני אחים. אמוץ הועלה אחרי נפילתו לדרגת סגן-אלוף.
