Turai Haim Cheplinski served in the Israel Defense Forces. Haim served with the Armored Corps. Haim served in the War of Independence.

What Happened

בן מרים ואברהם, נולד בשנת 1909 בעיר אושמיאנה, הסמוכה לווילנה, ליטא. בשחרותו נתייתם מאביו. חיים סיים בית-ספר יסודי והיה לחשמלאי מנוסה. תמיד שאף לעלות לארץ ובשנת 1935 הגשים את חלומו. בבואו ארצה השתקע בתל-אביב והיה מעובדי מחלקת-המאור בעיריית תל-אביב. היה חבר פעיל בקרב ציבור עובדי העירייה (חבר ועד פועלי מפעל המים והמאור בעיריית תל- אביב), דאג לזכויות העובדים ועמד לצד המקופחים. היה פעיל ב"הגנה" עוד משנות מאורעות-הדמים תרצ"ו-תרצ"ט. עלה בדרגה ואימן גם אחרים. חיים עמד תמיד על משמרת עירו ובהגנתה נפל ביום כ"ה בשבט תש"ח (5.2.1948) כשניצב בעמדתו והדף עם יתר הלוחמים את הסתערות האויב, וצרור כדורים פגע בראשו. הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות הצבאי בנחלת יצחק. הניח אחריו אישה, רבקה, ובן, אברהם.
