Segen Mordehai Lerner served in the Israel Defense Forces. Mordehai served with the Engineering corps. Mordehai served in the War of Attrition. Mordehai was 23 years old.
בן יחיד להוריו יוסף ורינה. נולד ביום כ"ח באלול תש"ו (24.9.1946) בבוקרשט שברומניה. הוא עלה ארצה במחצית שנת 1959 עם משפחתו, שהשתקעה בהרצליה. שם למד בבית-הספר היסודי על שם ויצמן ובבית-הספר התיכון העירוני, במגמה המתמטית-פיסיקאלית. בתחילה התקשה הנער בשפה העברית אך עד מהרה הצליח להשתלב בלימודים ואף בחיים החברתיים והספורטיביים שבבתי-הספר. מרדכי גויס לצה"ל בראשית ספטמבר 1965, אך כיון שהצטרף לעתודה האקדמית, נדחה שירותו. במסגרת העתודה האקדמית למד בטכניון העברי בחיפה הנדסת בניין. באוקטובר 1969 חזר לשירות חובה ובהיותו בשירות סדיר נערך טכס ההסמכה לבוגרי מחזורו בטכניון, בפקולטה להנדסה אזרחית. במשך התקופה הקצרה ששירת הגיע לדרגת סגן-משנה. אור ליום י' בתמוז תש"ל (13.7.1970), השתתף בפשיטת כוח צה"ל על מוצב ירדני קדמי, ובקרב שהתחולל בעמק בית-שאן נפל סג"מ מרדכי. הוא הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית-הקברות של עיר מגוריו הרצליה. לאחר נפילתו הועלה לדרגת סגן. בחוברת אוקטובר 1970 של "בית הטכניון", הביטאון הפנימי של המוסד, פורסמה כתבה קצרה על מרדכי.
