Turai Haim Shtern served in the Israel Defense Forces. Haim served with the Armored Corps. Haim served in the War of Independence.

What Happened

בן רחל ומשה-זאב, נולד בשנת 1924 בעיר צ'נסטוחוב, פולין. גדל בבית חרדי ולמד בבית-ספר יסודי ובישיבה. עם פרוץ מלחמת- העולם השנייה נעקר ממקומו. היה כלוא במחנות הסגר ועבודה כל ימי שלטון הנאצים וראה סבל רב עד ששוחרר על-ידי צבאות בעלות-הברית המנצחות. לאחרונה ישב במחנה ברגן-בלזן, שם הצטרף ל"הגנה" והתכונן לעלייה. חיים עלה לארץ בשנת 1947. עבד בתל-אביב כמכונאי במוסך והוסיף להשתתף בפעולות ה"הגנה". עבר קורס עזרה ראשונה ב"מגן-דויד-אדום", ועם החרפת המצב בגבולות העיר יצא לעמדות כחובש. תוך כדי מילוי תפקידו זה נפל בעמדה ברחוב התבור בתל-אביב, ביום י' באדר ב' תש"ח (21.3.1948) בשעת הפגזה. הובא למנוחת-עולמים בבית- הקברות הצבאי בנחלת יצחק.
