Major, United States Army, Infantry.
A native of Washington, he finished at St John's College High School in 1986 and came out of Howard University in 1991 as a distinguished military graduate, with a degree in finance, and was commissioned into the infantry.
He went through the infantry officer basic and advanced courses, airborne and air assault schools, Ranger school, the pathfinder course, the scout platoon leader's course and the Bradley commander's course, and later the budget and resource management courses that took him to the Pentagon.
He served as a Bradley platoon leader, scout platoon leader and company executive officer with the 1st Battalion, 9th Cavalry at Fort Hood; as battalion S-4 and then commander of Charlie Company and of headquarters company with the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry at Fort Campbell; and as a budget officer in the resource management division at the Pentagon.
He was married to Captain Tamatha Patterson and they had two sons, Clifford the third, who was six, and Benjamin, who was two.
