Their life
Lauren Gail Bessette was born on November 5, 1964, in White Plains, New York, a twin with her sister Lisa; their younger sister was Carolyn. She grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut, studied economics at William Smith College, and joined Morgan Stanley in 1986. After a business degree at the Wharton School she went back to the firm, worked in Asian markets, spoke fluent Mandarin, and lived in Hong Kong from 1994 to 1998 as a vice president of investment banking. In 1998 she moved to New York to be near Carolyn.
On July 16, 1999, she was aboard her brother-in-law's plane to Martha's Vineyard, where he and Carolyn were to leave her. It went into the sea after dark, and all three were killed. She was given a formal funeral by the Navy, and her ashes were scattered from USS Briscoe with theirs. She was thirty-four.
