About petscii.nw

A Commodore BBS you can call today, and an archive of every machine Commodore made. Part of NeuraWeb.

The board

petscii.nw is a bulletin board system in the old sense: you dial in, log on with a handle, read the message bases, leave mail, trade files and play the door games. It answers at petscii.neuraweb.io:6400 with 32 lines, so a crowd can be on at once.

Call from a C64, a C128 in 40 or 80 columns, a VIC-20, a PET, a Plus/4 or an Amiga, and the board draws its screens for that machine. A PC gets ANSI, anything else gets plain text. Files come down by Punter, XMODEM or ZMODEM, the way they did. If you don't have a machine handy, you can dial the board right here in your browser.

There is a sysop on the other end. Page him from the board and the red phone rings.

The archive

The Commodore Catalog lists 756 products in 29 series, from the KIM-1 and the PET to the Amiga, the Commodore PCs and the C64 Ultimate, with photos and a write-up for each family. The Encyclopedia covers the chips, the people and the ideas behind them. Nine of the machines boot on the site, so you can see each one the way it looked when you switched it on.

The scene

Commodore news is written here in our own words. The BBS list carries 136 boards you can call tonight, each one dialled once a day to see that it still answers; sysops can send theirs in. Members keep a record of their own gear, and the main machine on it is their computer type on the board.

Who runs it

petscii.nw is run by Vincent, the sysop, as part of NeuraWeb, a service of NeuraWeb Global Inc. Posting, mail and files need a NeuraWeb account.
