The story
Collectors call it the Aldi 64: a Commodore 64 sold in Germany in 1987 through the Aldi supermarket chain and similar mass-market shops, at around 299 Deutsche Mark. It is a hybrid. The case keeps the original breadbin shape in a later, greyer shade, but the keys are the flatter C64C style, and inside is the short, cost-reduced board of the C64C era. It runs everything a C64 runs; it is a snapshot of how Commodore built the machine late in its life to sell it as cheaply as possible.
