A new face for petscii.nw: the Radar P
Our logo is the board's own radar: green phosphor, the sweep turning, and a P where the blip should be.
Every board had a face. Ours has one now: a radar screen in green phosphor, its sweep turning, and a P where the blip should be.
Where It Comes From
Call the board and the first thing you see is the logon screen: a world map with a radar ring over the bunker and a sweep arm going round, drawn the period way and paced to your baud rate. The new logo is that radar, brought out to the website. The green is the green of a PET screen or a monochrome monitor, and the P is drawn in heavy pixels, the way a logo had to be drawn in the 80s to survive on a screen.
Where You Will See It
At the top left of every page, big enough to sit across the search bar and the menu. In your browser tab, in a simpler version that still reads at 16 pixels. On your phone's home screen, if you save the site there. The sweep turns slowly; if your computer is set to reduce motion, it holds still.
How We Got Here
The sysop had sketched a handful of ideas over the past weeks: rainbow rings, a striped disc, rainbow letters. This morning eight went on the table, from a keycap off a breadbin keyboard to a READY. screen. The radar won because it is ours: it comes straight from the board.
