BBS Etiquette
Every board had its house rules, posted where new callers would find them. These are ours, and most of them are as old as the bulletin board itself.
One Call, One Line
Thirty-two lines sounds like a lot until everyone calls at once. Do what you came to do, and hang up with X at the main menu rather than just dropping the connection. Your duty shift is shown in the prompt; the board warns you before it runs out.
Read Before You Post
Read the new messages in a base before you add your own. Someone may already have asked your question, or answered it.
One Subject, One Base
Post Amiga questions in the Amiga users group, trades in Buy Sell Trade, and so on. Give your message a subject line that says what it is about. "HELP" tells nobody anything; "1541 WILL NOT LOAD, RED LIGHT FLASHES" gets answers.
Quote Little, Write Clearly
Every line you send costs every caller time at 1200 baud. Say it once and say it plainly.
No Flames
Disagree all you like, politely. Personal attacks get deleted, and repeat offenders lose their access. The sysop's decision is final; that has always been the deal on a private board.
No Pirated Software
Nothing goes up on this board that you do not have the right to share: no cracked games, no commercial programs, no serial numbers. This was the rule on every board that wanted to stay up, and it is ours.
Your Handle Is You
Keep the same handle and stand behind what you write under it. Your handle here is also your name across NeuraWeb.
Say Thanks
Somebody answered your question? Tell them. Somebody uploaded something good? Say so in the bases. Boards ran on goodwill.
Page The Sysop For A Reason
P rings the red phone. Use it when you need the sysop, not to say hello at three in the morning. For anything that can wait, use F for feedback.
