How To Call petscii.nw
There are two ways in. Both reach the same board, the same messages and the same people.
From A Web Browser
Go to neuraweb.io/petscii.nw, pick a machine and click Dial the Board. The screen in your browser behaves like the machine you picked: 40 columns for a C64, 80 for a C128 or an Amiga, 22 for a VIC-20. The baud chip at the top sets how fast the text arrives. 300 baud is how it felt in 1983. 9600 is a luxury.
By Telnet
Address: petscii.neuraweb.io
Port: 6400
From a PC or a Mac, SyncTERM is the easy way. Make a new entry in its dialing directory, set the connection type to Telnet, type in the address and the port, and choose a screen mode: a C64 mode for real PETSCII colour and graphics, or an 80-column mode for ANSI.
From a real Commodore, you need a WiFi modem on the user port (several are made today) and a terminal program such as CCGMS or Novaterm. Most WiFi modems dial an internet board with the ATDT command followed by the address and the port, for example:
Atdt Petscii.neuraweb.io:6400
Check your modem's manual; a few use a slightly different form.
The Ultimate boards for the C64 can pretend to be a modem. If yours has that setting, switch it on in the Ultimate menu and dial the same address from your terminal program.
Computer Type
A PC-style terminal is recognised by itself. A Commodore caller is asked once what machine is on the line, and the board keeps the answer on your record. If you call from a different machine later, press T at the main menu.
Logging On
Type your handle at HANDLE, then your PIN at CLEARANCE CODE. New callers type NEW and fill in the application; the sysop validates every one. Until then you can look around as a GUEST.
When you are done, press X at the main menu. Hanging up properly frees the line for the next caller.
