Fears for England soccer fan who vanished on way to US for World Cup

Add The New York Post on Google An England soccer fan has vanished while traveling to the US for the World Cup – with his anguished family fearing he may have gone missing during a layover in Spain.

Michael Hewitt, 65, last spoke with his family in Barcelona on June 21, one day after jetting out of the UK for the tournament, according to Leeds Live

The diehard Leeds United fan was supposed to fly to Boston – where England played out a 0-0 draw against Ghana last Wednesday.

“He doesn’t seem to have made it to Boston, and our last contact with him was from Barcelona,” worried brother Mike Wakefield said about his sibling, who is affectionatly known as “Little Mick.” “Since then, his phone has been out of service and he hasn’t posted any updates on social media,” he said.

“As you can imagine, we are now very worried for his safety.”

The British Foreign Office and Interpol both have active missing person cases seeking info on him.

“We are supporting the family of a British man reported missing in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities,” a Foreign Office spokesperson told The Post.
