New York Knicks Knicks staring down crunch in free agency after assembling strong baseline for quest to repeat By Stefan Bondy Published June 29, 2026, 9:49 p.m. ET Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post The Knicks locked up Landry Shamet, which, barring James Dolan changing his mind on the second apron, reiterated what we knew was happening: Mitchell Robinson is gone.
On the eve of free agency Monday, the Knicks and Shamet agreed to a four-year, $24 million pact — a big move for Leon Rose to re-up with one of his top two-way performers.
The Knicks fulfilled a goal and Shamet, who might’ve received more on the open market, has more security after playing the last two seasons on one-year minimum contracts.
The circumstances, while expected, leave the Knicks in need of a backup center.
