Ted Danson hosts the podcast "Where Everybody Knows Your Name." Who's With Me? with W. Kamau Bell Talk about lost in translation!
“Cheers” star Ted Danson‘s podcast is called “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” — but it seems the show is pretty shaky on its own guests’ monikers?
A press release for the latest episode repeatedly touts its guest as that famed Hollywood actor, “Eduardo Norton.”
A release sent out by SiriusXM for the Danson podcast last week said in its subject line: “Edward Norton spent years trying to make ‘The Invite’ before Olivia Wilde got it — and calls out double standard she faced while directing.”
But the release then goes on to say, inexplicably: “On today’s episode of [“Where Everybody Knows Your Name”] host Ted Danson speaks with Eduardo Norton.”
It adds that “highlights include” how “Eduardo Norton originally tried to direct ‘The Invite’ – had been obsessed with the Spanish version for years,” and that, “People tried to tell Olivia Wilde she couldn’t direct and act in the film — which Eduardo Norton and Seth Meyers defended her from, calling it a double standard.”
“The Invite” stars Edward Norton and Seth Rogen, not Meyers, as well as Penelope Cruz and Wilde, who also directed.
And while we are completely sympathetic to typos — there but for the grace of god, an’ all — the Eduardo error just seemed so off the wall not to mention! (As did the errant Seth Meyers casting. Meyers’ film resume is limited to projects like the 2009 comedy, “Spring Breakdown.”)
We reached out to Norton’s rep, hoping the star might play ball and give us a quote in Spanish. But “The Illusionist” actor has been busy promoting his new movie, and going to the World Cup with Brad Pitt.
So alas, he did not get back to us. But an insider close to Norton said they thought the error was “funny.”
The SiriusXM release for Danson’s podcast then quoted the “Fight Club” star extensively, again as “Eduardo.” (“The Invite” is indeed a remake of a Spanish film which Norton admired, but we’re not sure that’s enough of an influence for a name change?)
On the episode, FWIW, Danson calls his guest Edward, not Eduardo. Recent other guests on Danson’s show include Enrique Winkler, Juan C. Reilly and Harrison Ford. His sometimes co-host is his former “Cheers” co-star Woody Harrelson.
