open mike Mike Vaccaro Post readers sound off on the sorry state of the Mets with season turning into nightmare By Mike Vaccaro Published June 27, 2026, 4:01 p.m. ET New York Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns (r.) stands on the field with owner Steve Cohen at Spring Training, Monday, Feb. 17, 2025, in Port St. Lucie, FL. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST Sometimes you just have to turn the laptop over to the people. Phil MacDonald: “Blame David Stearns & Steve Cohen. I never understand why GMs bring in players with injury histories and the Mets brought in many. … Jorge Polanco, Luis Robert [Jr.], Marcus Semien and Bo Bichette all have had stints on the DL the last few years. And on top of that, they are asked to play new positions.”

Bill Quigley: “We should forget chanting Pete [Alonso] and start with, ‘Let’s fire Stearns.’ Instead of our beloved ‘Let’s go, Mets!’ ”
