Add The New York Post on Google David Stearns said that he hasn’t considered stepping aside from his role as the Mets’ president of baseball operations — and that he still has the support of owner Steve Cohen to do the job — in the aftermath of Carlos Mendoza’s firing.
Mendoza, who guided the Mets to the NLCS in 2024 before they collapsed in the second half of last year and opened 2026 with a 34-47 record, was fired Friday with the Mets reaching a six-game losing streak.
“I believe that we are building the foundation of an organization that can deliver what we all want,” Stearns said, when asked why he hasn’t considered stepping down. “I don’t believe that our record on the field this year is indicative of some of the advancements that we have made in the organization, but clearly our record is nowhere good enough.”
Andy Green, who previously managed the Padres, will take over as interim manager for the remainder of the season, but Stearns said that Green will return to the office following the campaign — and that the Mets will conduct a full managerial search.
