Add The New York Post on Google The infamous Knicks-themed city trash can that went viral after an overzealous fan emptied it onto a Manhattan sidewalk and made off with it has now been returned.
The orange and blue receptacle was pilfered after an “incredibly stupid” fan – identified by sources as recently-axed JPMorgan Chase exec Angie Baez – dumped the trash onto Broadway and walked off with the city-owned receptacle, department officials told The Post.
A pic posted by the department showed the trash bin outside sanitation offices.
“Yes, this is the same basket that was in the video,” department spokesman Vincent Gragnani said. “It was returned to us, we removed two stickers from it, and took the photo ourselves at our Worth Street Headquarters – no AI used.”
Gragnani said Baez turned over the stolen goods herself – and was hit with a $75 fine for littering and $100 for impeding Department of Sanitation operations, the max allowed by law.
The high-profile theft went viral after a video posted on X captured Baez, fully decked out in Knicks gear, dump the trash on the sidewalk and walk away with the spoils.
She was later snapped on the subway still lugging the basket.
Baez, 40, did not answer the door at her Harlem home and did not return calls from The Post.
JPMorgan Chase, where Baez worked as executive director of community and industry engagement, confirmed this week that, “the employee is no longer with the company.”
The victory parade marked a citywide celebration for the Knicks, who won their first NBA title in 53 years by defeating the San Antonio Spurs in five games.
