13-year-old dies weeks after falling from Yo-Yo carnival ride at full speed

Add The New York Post on Google A 13-year-old boy has died from his injuries two weeks after he fell off a “Yo-Yo” carnival ride while it was going full speed in a horrific accident, according to officials.

The teen died Sunday at a hospital where he had been receiving treatment after he fell from a moving carnival ride and sustained serious injuries, in Butte, Montana, earlier this month, Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement said.

Police have not released the boy’s name pending consultation with his family, but a heartbreaking memorial outside of the Orphan Girl Children’s Theater identified him as Clayton Phillips, KPAX reported.

The boy was flung from his chair while on Yoyo ride while it was going full speed in the Butte Civic Center parking lot on Sunday, June 7 for an annual pop-up carnival event, Butte Civic Center Director Bill Melvin told KXLF.

He suffered extensive injuries that ultimately proved fatal.

Witnesses watched in horror as the teen flew through the air before a woman with medical training sprang into action to help the boy, KBZK reported. The boy was reportedly unconscious after hitting his head.

The incident remains under investigation, police said.

The ride was operated by the Arizona-based company Midway West Amusements, who had previously visited and held events in Butte without any problems, according to NBC Montana.

Midway West Amusements did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Post has also reached out to Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement and the Butte-Silver Bow coroner’s office for additional information.
