Trump tears into lefty Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker after bloody weekend in Chicago leaves 5 dead, 22 injured

Add The New York Post on Google President Trump tore into lefty Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker on Sunday over spiraling violence in Chicago – after a bloody weekend in the Windy City left at least five people dead and 22 others wounded, according to reports.

The president’s piercing message came after at least 12 people were injured late Friday when a pair of gunmen unleashed a barrage of bullets on a crowd celebrating Juneteenth in the city’s South Side, according to Chicago police.

The drive-by shooting erupted just after 11 p.m. in the Princeton Park neighborhood when two thugs inside a red SUV opened fire on the gathering before speeding off, cops said.

Responding police found a 32-year-old woman who had been shot twice in the back and a 44-year-old man whose back had been grazed by four bullets. Both were rushed to local hospitals in stable condition, police said.

Other victims included a 17-year-old boy and a 22-year-old woman who were each shot in the thigh, along with a 32-year-old man who was shot in the head, according to cops.

Only one victim – a 26-year-old man who was struck in the body – was hospitalized in critical condition, police said.

The shooters were still on the loose Sunday morning, when Trump blasted Pritzker for failing to get the violence under control.

“Lots of Killing going on in Chicago…Why isn’t Governor Pritzker calling me for help?” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“I could make Chicago a safe City in ONE MONTH, in ONE YEAR, it would be one of the safest!!!” the president continued, and touted his administration’s crackdown on violence in Washington D.C.

Murders are up 8% so far this year compared to 2025 — which was a record low year for killings. Homicides are still down by 35% compared to four years ago, according to Chicago Police Department crime stats.

The Juneteenth bloodshed was just one of several deadly shootings that rocked the Windy City this weekend.

Hours earlier, a 29-year-old man was killed and an elderly bystander wounded in another drive-by shooting in the West Pullman area, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Three more men – ages 33, 34 and 50 – were killed in separate shootings across the city Friday night.

And early Saturday, a 37-year-old man was fatally shot in the neck in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood.

At least 10 other people were wounded in shootings citywide during a chaotic 24-hour stretch from Friday night to Saturday night, according to the outlet.

Pritzker — who posted on X about Father’s Day Sunday, but did not acknowledge the weekend violence in Chicago — did not respond to The Post’s request for comment Sunday.
