Mark Cannizzaro Don’t count out a Scottie Scheffler US Open comeback for career grand slam By Mark Cannizzaro Published June 20, 2026, 11:47 p.m. ET Scottie Scheffler watches his tee shot on the 17th hole during the third round of the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club on June 20, 2026. John Angelillo/UPI/Shutterstock Sure, Scottie Scheffler stands six shots behind leader Wyndham Clark entering Sunday’s U.S. Open final round at Shinnecock Hills.

If you think that’s insurmountable, you either don’t know Scheffler very well or haven’t been paying a lot of attention to golf the past three years as he’s had a stranglehold on the world No. 1 ranking in Tiger Woods-like dominant fashion.

Clark will be acutely aware of that as he waits out the better part of Sunday for his tee time to finally arrive.
