Operation Santa Claus: Hong Kong children find joy and inclusion in mochi-making

Chinachem Group volunteers join children with special educational needs for a mochi-making workshop celebrating Chinese New Year

The workshop, held in partnership with the charity TREATS, brought participants together to make traditional festive food. TREATS is among the beneficiaries of Operation Santa Claus (OSC), an annual fundraising campaign jointly organised by the South China Morning Post and RTHK.

Amy Wu, director of corporate communications at Chinachem Group, said the session reflected the company’s commitment to giving back to the community.

“At Chinachem Group, we create people‑centred places that connect people with their surroundings, and foster belonging, inclusion and shared purpose,” she said. “This closely aligns with the OSC theme of building bridges.

The workshop is part of Chinachem Group’s ongoing support for the annual fundraiser. Since 2021, the Group has helped the campaign bring businesses and communities together, turning goodwill into tangible action.

Through the initiative, staff volunteers have partnered with NGOs and beneficiaries to reach people who might otherwise receive less support, helping to strengthen social ties across Hong Kong.

Hands-on activities like the mochi-making workshop hold special meaning for the group.
