Fundraiser for dog in Knicks jersey shot by LAPD raises more than $100K amid public outcry

Add The California Post on Google A mass effort to raise money for the family of a dog fatally shot by Los Angeles police officers while celebrating the New York Knicks’ NBA championship win has already raised more than $100K — as public outrage over the incident continues to grow.

A GoFundMe campaign created in memory of Jameson, a 2-year-old golden retriever, Saint Bernard and poodle mix, had raised more than $115,000 as of Tuesday morning — far surpassing its original $10,000 goal.

“On June 13th, 2026, 10 minutes after celebrating the Knicks championship win, our dog was fatally shot right outside our home,” the grieving family states.

“Jameson was 2 years old, and he was taken from us too soon. Anyone who’s met Jameson would tell you he is the sweetest boy in the world. Please help us raise money to get Justice for Jameson and any cremation fees.”

The page did not explain what “justice” for the animal included.

The fundraising effort comes after a family’s celebration of the Knicks’ NBA championship ended in tragedy Saturday night when officers responding to reports of a screaming woman shot and killed the dog outside a condo complex in Canoga Park.

Jameson had been celebrating with the family before the shooting. A photo taken shortly before he was killed showed the dog wearing a New York Knicks shirt.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers from the Topanga Patrol Division responded to a radio call shortly after 8 p.m. regarding a “screaming woman” inside an apartment.

Police said the large dog was with its owner when officers asked her to secure the animal. The owner briefly closed the door, then reopened it, allowing Jameson to exit the apartment, police said.

Officers alleged the dog then charged toward one of them, prompting the shooting.

“Oh my God! Oh my God,” cried Jameson’s owner — Marie Marseille. “I cannot believe this is happening. I cannot believe this is happening.”

A memorial has since begun growing in the hallway where neighbors witnessed Jameson’s death.

Police said the shooting remains under investigation.
