Add The California Post on Google Santa Ana police on Sunday night shot and killed a crazed teen armed with a knife — after a bizarre attack that left the teen’s mother injured and her boyfriend with stab wounds.
The incident began around 10:30 p.m. when a 53-year-old man called police and said his girlfriend’s son was high or drunk, vandalizing property inside their apartment and had stabbed him with a knife, a press release issued by the Santa Ana Police Department said.
Officers responded to the man’s residence at 3400 S. Main St. in Santa Ana and found the 16-year-old still armed with the knife. Officers shot the teen, who died at the scene.
“Our officers were presented with a very complex situation,” Santa Ana police spokesperson Natalie Garcia told The Post.
“Our concern in a family dispute like that is just to de-escalate and try to get the cooperation of all parties involved, regardless of age,” Garcia explained.
“Unfortunately, in the situation, the 16-year-old was armed with a lethal weapon, and our officers engaged him, and that’s when the officer involved shooting occurred,” Garcia added.
The Santa Ana Police Department’s Homicide Unit, the Internal Affairs Division, and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the shooting, Garcia said.
Santa Ana police in January shot and killed an 18-year-old driver who police said reached for a gun in a traffic stop.
