Add The New York Post on Google MCKINNEY, Texas — Hate-filled clashes focused on race erupted Tuesday outside the courthouse where black teen Karmelo Anthony was convicted of murdering white fellow high-schooler Austin Metcalf.
“Free Karmelo!’’ pro-Anthony supporters screamed, rallying against the swift verdict that could now land the 19-year-old up to life behind bars.
Someone raged, “This whole thing’s been racist!
Another person yelled, “Y’all used to locking up n—as any goddamn way!”
A demonstrator was furious at the fact that Anthony didn’t have a single black juror at trial.
“Tell those white folks, why is a black boy in front of an all white jury? When has a white boy been in front of an all black jury? Never!”
The jury consisted of whites, Asians and Hispanics.
A white protester carried his baby over to the crowd and started jeering at one point, and foes in the crowd — which included five or six people who identified themselves as with the radical black-power group the Black Panthers — ran him off.
Authorities appeared poised to make arrests at several points during the conflict.
