A schoolgirl has been arrested after three people were stabbed in a school in Manchester.

Students were put into lockdown and told not to leave their classrooms after emergency services were called to the Co-op Academy in Blackley on Tuesday morning.

Greater Manchester police said a girl was arrested at the scene and that the injuries sustained were consistent with stab wounds but were otherwise “non-serious”.

A GMP spokesperson said: “Officers are currently responding to an incident at a school [in] Blackley where a schoolgirl has been arrested. Three people have been injured however injuries aren’t believed to be serious at this time.

“Emergency services remain on scene and we are supporting the school. There is not believed to be any wider threat to the pupils and staff in the school.”
