Jon Heyman Ryan Weathers could be the Yankees’ secret weapon By Jon Heyman Published Feb. 26, 2026, 6:43 p.m. ET Yankees pitcher Ryan Weathers #40, throwing a warmup pitch before facing the Nationals. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post The Yankees brought back almost their very same team, but their biggest add, Ryan Weathers, may turn out to be a lot bigger than anyone figured. The lefty hit a personal best 99.8 mph in his spring debut during 3 ²/₃ scoreless innings and struck out five.
Weathers had an injury-plagued start to his career in Miami but the Yankees see big upside, as the No. 7 overall pick from 2018 and son of ex-Yankee David Weathers showed serious improvement in 2024-25. Plus, he’s still only 26.
Attention, Yankees: Lefty specialists Danny Coulombe and Jalen Beeks are still available. So is big righty Michael Kopech.
The Yanks look pretty solid but the pen needs work.
