Javier Bardem plays Max Cady, this time around a convicted murderer who gets to leave prison only after his mistress confesses to killing his pregnant wife before dying by suicide. Her final testament contains details only the killer would know and she has the long sought murder weapon. (She also was being coached through this confession by someone over the phone.)
The two people most on edge about Cady’s release? His former defense attorney Anna Bowden (Amy Adams) and Tom Bowden (Patrick Wilson), the handsome prosecutor in the case she married as soon as they reached a plea deal to put Max behind bars. Cady’s release sets off an atomic bomb in their otherwise picture perfect world, putting everyone — including their children — on edge.
