Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) finally got over his obsession with the “Lady in Silver” and decided to devote himself to his living, breathing, true love Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha). However, the bohemian Bridgerton boy might have blown up their romance before it could really take off by asking the maid to be his mistress. The Netflix show might offer a version of Regency London where race isn’t an issue, but class certainly is. As a nobleman, Benedict can’t marry Sophie, because they would be ousted from high society. So he offers her a compromise.
“I’ve been talking to other people who got really upset about it, that idea,” Bridgerton star Luke Thompson told DECIDER. “It’s really sort of touching because you sort of feel like, ‘Oh, yeah, this is an experience that some people have had with some men clearly.’ It’s true to [life]. I think that’s why Bridgerton is so popular is I think it speaks to people.”
Part of what makes Benedict’s proposal even more upsetting is the fact that he doesn’t realize that Sophie has been the “Lady in Silver” he has been searching for all this time. She snuck into the masquerade for a single night of enjoying the life she might have enjoyed if her aristocratic father had married her mother.
“It is pretty insensitive and it’s pretty blind of him, but then the season is a little bit about his blindness,” Thompson said. “Like, the amount of times he doesn’t recognize Sophie, for instance.”
So what’s going to happen next on Bridgerton? Will Sophie accept Benedict’s offer to be his mistress? Will Benedict ever figure out Sophie is the Lady in Silver? When does Part 2 of Bridgerton Season 4 come out?
