The woman fired from a Massachusetts McDonald’s over viral video showing her stuffing French fries into her mouth and then putting them back in a box will face criminal charges, police said.
Southbridge Police said the woman, who has yet to be publicly identified, will be formally charged at the Dudley District Court on Monday, the local Telegram & Gazette reported.
The employee was featured in the stomach-churning footage grabbing a handful of fries at the Southbridge restaurant on East Main Street and shoving them into her mouth while a co-worker laughs behind her in the kitchen.
“So you want French fries today, right?” the woman says to the camera as she puts the fries from her mouth back in a box, presumably to serve customers at the restaurant.
After the video went viral last week, Southbridge police said investigators and officials from the Board of Health were reviewing the incident.
“We are also working to determine whether the food was ultimately served to a customer and to identify any individual who may have been affected,” police said.
Police did not say what charges the woman would face.
The nauseating scene brought immediate backlash to the restaurant, with its owners, the Spadea and Balducci families, stuck on damage control.
“The actions of these individuals are unacceptable and do not reflect our organization’s food safety standards or values. We conducted an internal review, and they are no longer employed by our organization,” the owners said in a joint statement.
“We are proactively working with local authorities and the local health department, who found no public health concerns or violations. The wellbeing and safety of our Southbridge community remains our top priority.”
