Steve Kerr once spent an entire year secretly paying homage to Taylor Swift.
The Warriors coach revealed to ESPN’s Wright Thompson during a recent interview that it all happened in 2023, when he was looking “to entertain himself in his press conferences.”
Steve Kerr revealed to ESPN that he spent a year sneaking Taylor Swift lyrics into his press conferences. Getty Images Kerr would sneak lyrics from Swift’s hit “All Too Well” into his answers to journalists’ questions, and he did it so seamlessly, no one publicly picked up on it.
Kerr told Thompson his son actually ended up editing all of his phrases together into one big video at the end of the year, and it actually found its way to Swift.
“She ended up seeing it through a mutual friend,” Kerr said.
Taylor Swift reportedly wanted to post the video of Steve Kerr saying her lyrics to her social media. GC Images “Wait, is this real?” Kerr said Taylor asked. “Can I put it on social media?”
Wright reported Kerr then asked her to keep it private.
To this day, the edited footage has not hit mainstream airwaves, though eagle-eyed social media users on Thursday were able to locate at least one instance of Kerr slyly muttering a Swift lyric following a Warriors game.
“I walked through the door,” Kerr said, referencing the first line of Swift’s 2012 classic, “of the locker room at halftime and I thought, ‘We must have 20 turnovers.'”
Andy Reid announced this week he will be at Swift’s upcoming marriage to Travis Kelce — and perhaps after Kerr’s sly Swift gesture, the Chiefs honcho won’t be the only major sports head coach in attendance.
