The Dodgers won their second consecutive game over the Giants on Thursday night, but it was nonetheless a frustrating day at the ballpark for Dalton Rushing.
The Los Angeles catcher had a brutal evening at the dish, going 0-for-3 with three strikeouts, and he melted down after the last two.
Dalton Rushing hit himself in the head with a baseball bat following his third strikeout of the night on Thursday. YouTube/@JMBaseball Rushing, who first struck out against Landen Roupp in the bottom of the second inning with runners on second and third, went down on strikes for a second time in the bottom of the fourth, and he was so upset, he snapped his bat over his leg.
Two innings later, he lost it again when he went down swinging against Matt Gage with runners on second and third yet again.
Broadcast cameras caught the 25-year-old beating himself in the head with his bat as he returned to the dugout. He was later seen screaming into has hands loudly.
Fortunately for Rushing, the Dodgers were able to take a 5-2 lead moments later that they would not relinquish. Dalton also went on to draw a walk in the eighth inning, and he was clearly relieved to have avoided a fourth strikeout.
It’s been quite the season for Rushing thus far. He’s been one of the Dodgers’ best hitters, logging a .288 batting average with seven home runs, but he’s also made plenty of waves for his moves outside of the white lines.
Dalton Rushing has had a season full of ups and downs so far. Getty Images He got into a tiff with San Francisco earlier this year for appearing to not care about one of their injured stars, and then he quarreled with the Cubs after he seemingly called one of their players a “fat f—k.”
Earlier this month he told The California Post he wanted to make an effort to fix his growing “bad dude” rap — and while wild dugout outbursts won’t help much, the good news for him is he and the Dodgers are at least 2-0 in their last two.
