The photo quickly went viral on Chinese social media.The Tesla boss was part of a delegation accompanying US President Donald Trump on his visit to Beijing, which ended on Friday.AdvertisementChinese media reported that the bag was made by Yaxiaoqi Handmade, a firm based in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region in southern China.

On Thursday night the product had sold out on the e-commerce platform Taobao but was available for pre-order at a price of 338 yuan (US$50).

The firm said it had sold more than 10 times the usual daily amount and a live stream promoting the product had attracted hundreds of viewers, some of whom urged it to “ride the wave of viral traffic”.

The store now has more than 390,000 followers on the platform.
