The bigger the game, the better the Yankees’ emerging young stud has pitched in many cases.
Which makes Schlittler’s first start in the Subway Series on Friday night intriguing as he tries to get the Yankees off on the right foot against the Mets at Citi Field — treating the game just “like any other,” he said, even if the atmosphere suggests otherwise.
“I think I’m competitive — those moments don’t bother me, as you’ve seen in the past,” Schlittler said before the Yankees left Baltimore with a second straight series loss. “So I’ll definitely be a little bit more locked in than, say, another game. But it doesn’t take away preparation and my mentality going into it. I don’t think the importance of the game is going to dictate my routine changing or anything like that.”
