subway series Mike Vaccaro Subway Series is about to get some new blood — and that’s just what it needs By Mike Vaccaro Published May 14, 2026, 6:51 p.m. ET Cam Schlittler is pictured before his April 21 start against the Red Sox. Jason Szenes for the NY Post Think of the new faces like they’re Joe Walsh joining the Eagles in late 1975, injecting new life and new energy into an already established act just in time for “Hotel California.” Think of them as Woody Harrelson, Kelsey Grammar and Kirstie Alley when they joined “Cheers,” taking what was already a top-drawer show and making it even more irresistible.

Think about Joe Pesci joining the “Lethal Weapon” franchise.

This is the 30th season since it first became a part of the annual baseball calendar in 1997, and despite the fact that it’s become fashionable to take swings at it, to declare that the novelty is gone, the buzz muted, reality tells us something else.

Reality is full ballparks, both sides of the Triboro, every year.
