Teen girl hit by car fleeing prom party shooting that injured 4: ‘From magic to tragic’

A teenage girl was so terrified by a mass shooting at her prom party she was hit by a car while running for her life, according to police and family members.

Jordyn Williams, a 17-year-old high school junior at Muskegon High School, broke multiple bones and was knocked unconscious as she fled gunfire that left four people shot just before midnight Saturday at Veterans of Foreign Wars hall in Fruitport, a tiny town about 30 miles from Grand Rapids.

Williams was one of two people hit by cars while fleeing the chaos and is in intensive care awaiting surgery, her family said.

“From magic to tragic — my daughter started her night with excitement, looking absolutely gorgeous and ready for prom. But that special night turned into a nightmare when gunfire broke out at a high school prom after party,” Williams’ parents wrote in a GoFundMe page.

“She ran for her life, only to be struck by a car, leaving her unconscious with multiple wounds and broken bones. Now, I sit by her side, watching her fight for recovery with tubes down her throat, grateful that she is in stable condition and showing signs of life,” they said.

Four people were shot at the party and rushed to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Williams’ father, Andre Williams, told Fox 17 that his son told him his daughter had been severely injured trying to escape the carnage.

“From what I understand, there was several sets of shots. She kind of ducked down, from what I was told. And then when the second set of shots happened, she just darted off and tried to run away,” Williams said.

The second person struck by a vehicle and the four shooting victims have not been identified.

Fruitport Police said the shooting started as a dispute between two or more people, and that multiple people fired guns.

Police had not announced any arrests as of Wednesday morning.

The Williamses are raising money to help cover medical expenses and make their home wheelchair-accessible once she’s discharged from the hospital.

The Michigan VFW shooting came just hours after a 17-year-old was shot and killed taking pre-prom pictures at a local park in Tennessee Friday.
