Passer-by discovers man lying near the base of 32-metre tower, with victim later pronounced dead at Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital
Police said on Tuesday that they had received a report from a passer-by at about 3.49pm that the man had been found lying near the base of the 32-metre (105-foot) tower, which was built to commemorate Hong Kong’s return to Chinese sovereignty in 1997.
The man, surnamed Ng, was unconscious when officers discovered him at the scene. He was immediately sent to the Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital in Tai Po but was later pronounced dead.
The force said a preliminary investigation suggested the man had fallen from the tower. No suicide note was found at the scene, it added.
Police said an autopsy would be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
