A new diaper is disrupting the market — and Pampers and Huggies haven’t caught up

Kudos For decades, most disposable diaper brands have used plastic materials in their liners and outer layers — that includes Huggies, Pampers, Hello Bello and even Millie Moon.

Kudos’ founders realized that diapers don’t have to be made that way. Developed by MIT engineer Amrita Saigal, Kudos launched direct-to-consumer in 2021. In 2023, they scored a deal on Shark Tank with Mark Cuban and Gwyneth Paltrow, and by 2024, they were in Target — selling out over five times since.

Parents have taken notice, some choosing Kudos over traditional brands. What sets them apart isn’t just that they’re eco-friendly and biodegradable, it’s that Kudos diapers are the first disposable diapers lined with 100% cotton against baby’s skin. They’re also free from lotions, fragrances, natural latex, parabens and phthalates.

In an interview with Modern Retail, Saigal explained why more parents are seeking non-toxic diapers, and how Kudos has focused on scaling without compromising on quality.

“Parents care so much about the ingredients touching their baby’s skin,” Saigal explained, “So you’re seeing more of a push toward these brands with natural materials.”

While 100% cloth diapers have become a more popular choice for health-conscious households, the reality is that they’re more expensive and require constant washing. Kudos are made with skin-soothing cotton liners, but they’re still disposable, so you don’t have to worry about the mess.

Kudos also incorporates its award-winning DoubleDry technology, which uses two absorbent layers —rather than the standard single layer — for extra protection and longer-lasting dryness.

These diapers have even caught the attention of celebrity investors. “Nobody Wants This” creators Erin and Sara Foster regularly promote Kudos on their social media accounts. In a one conversation, the sisters explained why they chose to invest in the brand.

“Even the nicest, most luxe, healthy diaper brands are still filled with plastic and have plastic touching your baby,” Foster pointed out. “Now that I am a mom, I realize how many diapers I go through in a day. I mean, 24 hours a day, they’re just sitting in a diaper, imagine if they’re sitting in that diaper and it’s filled with plastic.”

Kudos doesn’t believe parents should have to choose between convenience and their child’s safety or comfort. These diapers are designed to deliver on all fronts, without compromise.
