AP Whether you’re dealing with the loss of two-time reigning Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal for several months or underwhelming performances from pitchers like Jesús Luzardo, Logan Webb or Garrett Crochet, who is also on the IL, your fantasy team needs able-bodied hurlers to survive.
The waiver wire is often a sea of streamers who might last five innings or a handful of pitchers whose ERAs look like typos. Every now and then, though, you can find one who is more than just a one-start wonder — a pitcher who can actually stick.
Marlins right-hander Max Meyer has been limited to just 33 career starts since being selected third overall in the 2020 draft. He has dealt with Tommy John surgery (2022-23), right shoulder bursitis (2024) and left hip labral repair surgery, which ended his 2025 season after just 12 starts.
But after eight starts this season, Meyer is 2-0 with a 2.79 ERA, 9.64 strikeouts per nine, a .196 opponents average and a 13.5 percent swinging-strike rate. Though he has not pitched deep into games (one quality start) and owns an 8.5 percent walk rate, he has not allowed more than three earned runs in any of his outings and has allowed just two home runs, none over his past five. (He is allowing just 0.43 dingers per nine, well below his 1.6 per nine career average.)
