Where Was ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Filmed?

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the latest entry in the Game of Thrones franchise, fully immersed viewers back into the familiar and always dramatic world of Westeros. Made up of seven kingdoms, or perhaps nine (according to Egg Targaryen), the continent of Westeros comprises a diverse range of distinct geographical regions, climates, and natural landscapes.

Dunk and Egg’s adventure in Season 1 is set in the Kingdom of the Reach, also known as the Green Realm for its fertile land. Consisting of vibrant woodland, castles, meadows, countryside, and rivers, you may be left wondering, where in our world are we?

Well, we’ve got you covered. Here’s everything to know about where and when A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was actually filmed…

Announced by BBC in 2024, interior scenes of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms were filmed at Titanic Studios in Belfast, the same capital city in which most of Game of Thrones was filmed. As for the outdoor scenes, which make up the majority of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, filming locations spanned Northern Ireland.

Peter Claffey, who plays Ser Duncan the Tall, told CN Traveler that the real-world location of Ashford Meadow, where knights of the tourney took camp, is Glenarm Castle Estate in Glenarm, Northern Ireland.

Other filming locations around Northern Ireland that were used as stand-ins to embody the characteristics of Ashford and the Reach include Cave Hill, the Hidden Village of Galboly, Myra Castle, and Leitrim Lodge.

The opening scene of the series that was frequently returned to, in which Dunk buries Ser Arlan of Pennytree, was filmed near Hen Mountain in the Mournes, previously seen in Game of Thrones as a backdrop for the North. The solitary twisted elm tree that inspired Ser Dunk’s sigil, however, was a staged prop.

According to CN Traveler, the wet and rainy climate of Northern Ireland raised issues for cast and crew on set, though it undoubtedly contributed to the overall rugged aura that the show required to convey the story of common folk. After all, could you imagine the trial of Seven being even half as good without the scenes of Dunk and Aerion rolling around one another in the wet mud?

In June 2024, HBO announced that production on A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms Season 1 had begun. In October 2025, HBO released an official release date of January 18, 2026, suggesting that filming took approximately one year to complete.

The series has already been officially renewed for Season 2, with promise of a debut in 2027.

Until then, the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is available for streaming now on HBO Max.
