A cordon is in place in Arnold town centre after a red Vauxhall Astra hit "a number of people" at about 01:10 BST on Saturday, said Nottinghamshire Police.
The force said the car was abandoned at the scene.
A spokesperson said the driver - believed to be a white man - left the scene but added there was "no indication at this stage of any ongoing threat to the wider public".
