New Shows & Movies To Watch This Weekend: ‘The Night Agent’ Season 3 on Netflix + More Before the end credits rolled on The Night Agent‘s Season 2 finale, fans may recall that Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) and Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan) parted ways after another high-stakes mission and an emotional conversation.

So since The Night Agent returned for its highly-anticipated third season on February 19, fans of Rose and Peter are likely wondering “Is Rose in Season 3 of The Night Agent?”

The Night Agent Season 3 spoilers ahead.

The third season of the Netflix thriller kicked off with Peter tracking down Treasury Agent Jay Batra (Suraj Sharma) who fled to Istanbul with crucial government intel after allegedly killing his boss. As Peter learned, Jay didn’t kill his boss. He was simply trying to flag suspicious financial activity linked to a terror attack! After the two returned to the United States, they teamed up with Financial Register reporter Isabel De Leon (Genesis Rodriguez) to investigate and take down those involved, including Jacob Monroe (Louis Herthum), President Hagan (Ward Horton), FLOTUS Jenny Hagan (Jennifer Morrison). But did Peter and Rose reunite in Season 3?! We’ve got answers!

Is Rose in ‘The Night Agent‘ Season 3? If not, why did Rose/Buchanan leave The Night Agent? How did The Night Agent write Rose off? And is there a chance that Rose could return in the future? Here’s everything to know about Buchanan’s character and the future of Rose on The Night Agent, including comments from creator Shawn Ryan.

Sadly, no. Though Rose doesn’t physically appear in The Night Agent‘s third season, however, she’s referenced numerous times, as Peter is still devastated he lost out on a relationship with her because of his job and wants to do everything possible to ensure her safety. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, The Night Agent creator Shawn Ryan stressed how important it was to have Rose still play a role in Season 3 — even if she wasn’t physically present.

“While the character of Rose isn’t in Season 3, the shadow of Rose hangs over a lot of Season 3. One of the things I fought for in the writers room was the idea that, as far as Peter was concerned, Rose wasn’t just disposable. It wasn’t just like, ‘Oh, well, we had a thing in those couple seasons, but now I’ll move on,'” Ryan told THR. “We wanted him to carry the weight of the sadness of that [relationship ending]. One of my favorite scenes in the season is in episode four, where he and Isabel are playing pool and asking each other questions, and he comes cleaner than he otherwise might [to someone else] about the weight of losing Rose and having to give her up.”

Without Rose by his side, Peter spent lots of time with Isabel and Jay in Season 3, and POTUS even appointed him a partner, Adam (David Lyons). But it felt natural to Ryan that Peter wouldn’t seek another romantic relationship so soon. So is Rose gone for good?

For those who need a refresher, after Rose helped Peter and the FBI thwart a terror attack in Season 2’s finale, Peter pulled her aside, revealed his plans to turn himself in, and said goodbye.

“I need you to promise me something. As long as I’m a Night Agent, people are gonna try to use you to get to me, cause they know that your safety — that you — mean everything to me,” Peter told Rose. “As long as you come searching for me you’ll be at risk. Promise me you’re not gonna wait for me to call. You hear I’m in trouble, you’re not gonna come look for me. Just forget about me.” The two shared an emotional hug (and head kiss!) goodbye, and the episode later revealed that Rose was back in California, buried in work thanks to a promotion, and was doing therapy twice a week. As for Peter? She had no idea what he was up to and thought it was better that way.

While we don’t check in with Rose in Season 3, it’s safe to assume that she still thinks about Peter, too. So why did Buchanan leave The Night Agent?!

For those curious why Luciane Buchanan stepped back from The Night Agent in Season 3, it sounds like the decision to separate Rose and Peter was purely creative.

“It wasn’t scheduling. It wasn’t that we were unhappy with Luciane in any way. She was wonderful. As we told that story in Season 2, it felt like an ending in that moment,” The Night Agent creator Ryan told The Hollywood Reporter. “But we started off in the writers room with the idea of, ‘How would a Peter/Rose-centric season three work?’ [We were] hitting some roadblocks and not getting to where we wanted to be. We asked, ‘Well, how would a Peter-centric season three without Rose work?’ And ultimately, that was the most creative, satisfying thing.”

“I called up Luciane, and I explained [the situation]. She was really wonderful about it, and had a sense from how season two ended that this was a possibility,” Ryan continued. “I was clear to her on the phone call: ‘Listen, we’re actually intending to bring Chelsea [the Secret Service Agent played by Fola Evans-Akingbola] back in Season 3 after she wasn’t in Season 2, other than one cameo scene near the end.”

So is Rose gone for good? It sounds like the Rose/Peter reunion that Night Agent fans were hoping for is still a very real possibility down the line.

“I still have hopes and intentions that Rose isn’t done on our show,” Ryan confirmed. “This is the kind of show where people can drop out and come back in, and I really want to hold open the possibility that Rose will return in the right situation… [Luciane] seemed to be [interested]. She can speak for herself, but we never want The Night Agent to become formulaic. We never want it to become repetitive.”

While The Night Agent hasn’t officially been renewed for Season 4 yet, here’s what we know about the future of the series and why Peter may be in a place to reunite with Rose soon.

The Night Agent Season 3 is now streaming on Hulu.
