Sam Smith and their boyfriend of more than three years, fashion designer Christian Cowan, are engaged, Page Six can exclusively reveal.
The couple, who attended the 2026 Met Gala together on Monday, were overheard talking about their engagement at the Mark Hotel before walking the red carpet.
Cowan accessorized his black couture Erté-inspired ensemble — which he designed along with the musician’s matching getup — with a massive square yellow diamond ring on that finger, which we’re told is by Cartier.

Smith — who identifies as non-binary and uses “they/them” pronouns — later posted about the duo’s outfits on Instagram.
Quoting Cowan, 32, they captioned the carousel, “‘I have always loved Erté. I love the way he brought costume art to the world through his visionary illustrations.”
Smith, 33, continued, “The infamous 1920s opulence and craft. 255,000 individual crystals and beads. 2,000 hours of artisanal hand sewing. This look is a love letter to the king of fashion illustration, and to my love, Sam.”
