The White House celebrated “Star Wars Day” with an AI-generated image of President Trump decked out in Mandalorian armor and holding an American flag with Grogu — aka “Baby Yoda” — tucked into a satchel on his belt.
“In a galaxy that demands strength – America stands ready. This is the way. May the 4th be with you,” the text accompanying the image read, the White House borrowing the most famous line from the Disney+ series and soon-to-be-film, “The Mandalorian.“
“May the 4th be with you” is a reference to the iconic Star Wars line, “may the force be with you,” which inspired the annual May 4 celebration of all things Jedi and Sith.
The White House posted an image of President Trump dressed as the Mandalorian to mark Star Wars Day, writing, “In a galaxy that demands strength – America stands ready. This is the way. May the 4th be with you.” White House / X The X post to mark the occasion last year was far more bellicose — the president appearing armed with a red light saber with a pair of bald eagles looking over his shoulders, and muscular arms bulging with veins protruding from a sleeveless Jedi robe.
“Happy May the 4th to all, including the Radical Left Lunatics who are fighting so hard to to bring Sith Lords, Murderers, Drug Lords, Dangerous Prisoners, & well known MS-13 Gang Members, back into our Galaxy. You’re not the Rebellion—you’re the Empire,” last year’s May 4 message read.
This year’s post triggered a flood of new memes inspired by the image of the commander-in-chief as the titular character played by actor and noted Trump-hater Pedro Pascal.
One image showed the president throwing back shots of Don Julio in the Star Wars cantina with characters from the series including Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Darth Vader and Princess Leia.
Last year’s “Star Wars Day” post by the White House featured Trump with rippling biceps and a Sith red light saber. The White House Another iteration replaced Grogu in Trump’s saddlebag with Marco Rubio peering out from the top with a concerned look on his face — a riff on the “Marco Rubio realizing” meme in which the Secretary of State is portrayed in an endless series of new job roles.
Trump himself has referenced Star Wars, including nicknaming Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought Darth Vader last October.
“They call him Darth Vader … he’s cutting Democrat priorities and they’re never going to get them back,” he said of Vought, calling the budget chief a “fine man.”
